Washer & Dryer

Amana Front-Load Washer & Electric Dryer

Washer

4.3 cu. ft. front-load — HE detergent required

Dryer

6.5 cu. ft. electric — sensor & timed cycles

HE Detergent Required

This washer requires HE (High Efficiency) detergent — look for the "HE" symbol on the bottle. Regular detergent creates too many suds in a front-loader and can cause problems.

The Washer

How to Wash
  1. Place sorted items loosely in the drum. Push everything in fully and make sure nothing is resting on the rubber door seal.
  2. Add HE detergent to the dispenser drawer (left compartment). Use the amount recommended on the bottle — more isn't better. Optionally add fabric softener (center) or bleach (right).
  3. Close the door firmly — it locks automatically when a cycle starts.
  4. Turn the knob to select your cycle. Normal works for most loads — everyday clothes, sheets, towels.
  5. Adjust temperature if needed. Cold is the safest choice for most clothes.
  6. Touch and hold START for 3 seconds to begin.

To cancel a cycle, touch and hold START for 3 seconds.

Don't overfill — clothes need room to move for a good wash. Small is 3–4 items, medium is about half full, large is three-quarters full.

🧴

Detergent (left)

Add HE detergent to the dispenser drawer (left compartment). Use the amount recommended on the bottle — more isn't better.

🌸

Fabric Softener (center)

Optional. Add to the center compartment of the dispenser drawer. Do not overfill past the MAX line.

💧

Bleach (right)

Optional. Add liquid bleach to the right compartment of the dispenser drawer. The washer dispenses it at the right time.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Clean Washer Cycle

Run the Clean Washer cycle periodically to clean the inside of the drum. Use an affresh tablet or a cup of white vinegar — no clothes.

Between Loads

  • Leave the door slightly open after washing to let the drum dry out and prevent musty odors.
  • Wipe down the rubber door seal occasionally to remove any moisture or residue.

If the washer smells musty, run the Clean Washer cycle and leave the door open between loads to let it air out.

The Dryer

How to Dry
  1. Clean the lint screen — pull it out from the top of the dryer, peel off the lint, and slide it back in.
  2. Load clothes loosely — don't pack them in.
  3. Close the door.
  4. Turn the knob to your desired cycle. AutoDry — High is the best default for most loads.
  5. Press START.

AutoDry — High senses when clothes are dry and stops automatically, saving energy and reducing wear. If you can't fold right away, enable Wrinkle Prevent to intermittently tumble clothes without heat.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Clean the lint screen before every load. Pull it out from the top of the dryer, peel off the lint, and slide it back in. This is important for safety and drying performance.

  • Periodically wipe down the interior drum with a damp cloth.
  • Check behind the dryer occasionally for lint buildup around the vent connection.
Dryer CyclesReference

Automatic (sensor stops when dry)

AutoDry — High

Best for most loads — cottons, towels, sheets.

AutoDry — Low

Gentler heat for synthetics, blends, or lighter fabrics.

Energy Preferred

Uses less energy. Takes a bit longer but saves electricity.

Timed Dry (runs for a set time)

Timed Dry 60

60 minutes — for heavy or large loads.

Timed Dry 40

40 minutes — for average loads.

Timed Dry 20

20 minutes — for small or almost-dry loads.

Air Dry (no heat)

Air Dry 20 / 10

Tumbles without heat. Good for items that can't take heat (athletic wear, certain synthetics). Takes longer.

Quick Tips

Don't overuse detergent. With HE washers, a little goes a long way. Too much detergent leaves residue on clothes and in the machine.

Check pockets before loading. Coins, keys, and tissues can cause problems or damage.

Move clothes to the dryer promptly after washing to prevent mildew and wrinkles.

Don't overload the dryer. Clothes need room to tumble. Overloading leads to longer dry times and wrinkles.

Troubleshooting
Reference
Washer won't start

Make sure the door is fully closed — it should click. Then touch and hold START for a full 3 seconds.

Clothes still wet

Check that you're not overloading. Try the Heavy Duty or extra spin cycle. Make sure the drain hose isn't kinked.

Dryer not drying

Clean the lint screen. Make sure the load isn't too large. Try a longer Timed Dry cycle.

Washer smells musty

Run the Clean Washer cycle. Leave the door open between loads to let it air out.
